Summer 2001 Pre-College Research Symposium

The Pre-College Research Symposia are the culmination of the activities and dissemination process of our Pre-College Programs (Saturday Academy, Summer Research Adventure SART) of the Model Institutions for Excellence (MIE) Project, a National Science Foundation sponsored program at Universidad Metropolitana (UMET). During fall, spring and summer semesters more than one hundred pre-college students, from many private and public high schools of Puerto Rico, worked long hours in the research laboratories of the Department of Science and Technology and in the field with the guidance and mentorship of college professors in several research projects in the areas of biological sciences, chemistry, physics, applied mathematics and computer science. We organize three Pre-College Research Symposia: Winter, Spring and Summer. Also have the participation of students from other private and public schools of Puerto Rico who worked in research projects with the guidance of mentors of their schools and the scientific communities of the island.
